What Is a Neurogenic Bladder?

Although our lives are busy, we must do everything we can to make sure that we’re healthy.  This means when we notice our health declining, we should see a specialist before the problem escalates.  Since there are so many specialists, it’s important to know who to go to for certain situations.  When it comes to urologists, they handle conditions that are related to the urinary tract or reproductive organs.  Although there are many reasons that a person may need to go to the urologist, a neurogenic bladder is one of them.

What is a Neurogenic Bladder?

Neurogenic bladder, which is also known as neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction, is when a person doesn’t have control over their bladder.  This occurs when the nerves and muscles don’t work well together, which can be a result of complications in the brain, spinal cord, or nerve problems.  There are medical conditions that can also contribute to this problem, including erectile dysfunction, spinal surgeries, stroke, trauma, central nervous system tumors, and more.

The Symptoms

Since the muscles don’t relax and tighten at the right time, this means it makes it difficult to empty or retain urine.  That’s why the most common symptoms that men will experience is the inability to control urination.  Other symptoms include a weak urine stream, frequent urination, and even painful urination.
